So last week, I told you I went in for my mammogram and encouraged you to get yours. Well, I had to go back as they saw something and wanted to take more images. It’s scary. You never want to have to go back. I was stressed waiting for the next test and then waiting for the results. I thought about how the results would impact everyone around me. What I realized I wasn’t doing was thinking about how it would impact me. Sometimes, I must remind myself that I am my own priority - and act like it. While I sat there waiting for the next step in the process, I remembered the breathing exercises from my meditations and used them to calm myself down. Then I turned on a meditation on courage to bolster me as I felt fragile. I’m happy to report, I’m in the clear! Some lessons stick out to me about how important having practices in place to deal with life in stressful moments is so important. Also, it is important to keep myself at the top of my priority list.

This is a fascinating true story of Ellen and William Craft, who escaped slavery through pure determination and disguise. Ellen passes as a wealthy, disabled White man and William poses as "his" slave.
In 1848, this enslaved couple achieved self-emancipation by posing as master and slave while on the run for over 1,000 miles! They encounter way too many close calls with slave traders and friends of their enslavers. Along the way, they are helped by abolitionists and other Black folks who have traveled the same roads. They had to be incredibly brave and calculating to make this escape a reality. The talk about their run made them celebrities and put them in even more danger. Still, they took on speaking engagements to talk about the horrors of slavery to persuade others to speak out against it. Theirs is an amazing story and one that seemed perfect to share today.
Thank you, my friend! 💗 And yes, I absolutely agree that book should be a movie.
Glad you're in the clear! Also I really enjoyed MSHW - it should be made into a movie.
